The Memphis Belle Swing Orchestra
The MEMPHIS BELLE Swing Orchestra first appeared in the blockbuster movie ‘Memphis Belle’ in 1990.
Greg Francis, was asked by Producer Lord David Puttnam, if he would appear with the orchestra at the Royal Premier in London, and the Venice Film Festival. Thus, with the encouragement of this great film producer, and with the kind help of Warner Films, the orchestra was launched in the Uk.
The orchestra went on to perform at various swing dance events in the Uk and it became the ‘Orchestra of choice’ for the various RAF and Military Museums and Re- enactment Groups.
The first singer to appear with the orchestra was Harry Connick Jr, and he and Greg have remained firm friends since that time.
The Orchestra musicians dress in the uniform of the 8th American Air Force (AAF) and they represent the orchestra of SHAEF whilst based in Great Britain during the mid 1940’s.
The Orchestra play a mixture of popular music from Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Tommy Dorsey and many more.
The orchestra has been established for over 30 years playing a lead role within UK the Big Band resurgence and quite rightly earned her place within the Big Band history books as one of the all-time greats.
